Yanmar 6LY3-ETP marine diesel engine 380hp
Price: US $26,377.00
DESCRIPTIONS:
Yanmar Marine has introduced two more engines in its new generation series of electronic control diesels. The new 6LY3-STP is rated at 440HP (324kW) and the 6LY3-UTP is 380HP (279kW), both at 3,300rpm and measured under conditions defined by ISO 8665 conditions.
These latest engines were introduced at Genoa Boat Show, one month after the first in the new line, the 480HP (353kW) 6LY3-ETP, was shown in public for the first time, at Southampton Boat Show. The completely redesigned, turbocharged, intercooled, wastegated, direct-injection, 24-valve, in-line-six 6LY3 series engines have Yanmar’s new electronic governing system. Exhaust emissions have been reduced significantly.
This new electronic control offers constant power regulation – regardless of fuel temperatures up to 50ºC – and synchronises the engine speeds of twin installations. Yanmar is working on triple-installation synchronisation. The electronic control manages the fuel delivery and injection timing of the high-pressure fuel pump, resulting in more torque and improved fuel economy.
Information from the electronic control system is shown on a multi-function Yanmar LCD display at the helm. Yanmar’s display unit, factory pre-set, provides full run-time engine data, including engine speed percentage load, hours, battery voltage, coolant temperature, fuel usage rate, fuel level (by using an optional fuel sensor), plus boost and oil pressures. There are 16 alarm indicators and an active command window is included. The system allows event sequencing as well. The engines weigh just 640 kilos, providing outstanding power-to-weight benefits. Dimensions are those of a 300HP engine, making the 6LY3 series the most compact diesels in their class. Length is 1,300mm, width 801mm and height 777mm.
A new range of marine transmissions has been developed specifically for these electronic control engines. They can be packaged with these Yanmar by Kanzaki hydraulic KMH series gears, quick and smooth to engage, including an electric trolling feature, and with exceptional torque handling capability. These marine gears are 20% more compact and nearly 20% lighter than the closest competitor.
The 6LY3 series engines displacement is 5.813 litres. They are fully compliant with EPA Tier 2, SAV/BSO Tier 2 excluding mass emission (for 6LY3-ETP), the 6LY3-STP & 6LY3-UTP models will be certified in due course, RCD and IMO requirements.

At two litres and three litres, they are lighter, more compact and cleaner than the models they replace. The engine dry weights are 250kg and 310kg respectively. Length (with gear to output flange) by width by height of the 180 MHP 4BY180 is 882x758x740 and the 260 MHP 6BY260 is 1151x758x740. All of the engines in the range meet the new EPA Tier 2 and European RCD emissions regulations.
These Yanmar diesels are similar in weight to petrol engines of equivalent capacity, and produce a similar rate of acceleration.
Electronic control is by second-generation common rail with magnetic injectors and the engines include a CAN bus system with NMEA 2000 protocol.
They are turbocharged and intercooled. The turbocharger on the inboard four-cylinder and all the six-cylinder models is wastegated.

What is Exhuast Gas Recirculation (EGR)?
Nitrogen oxide (NOx) is generated during the combustion of a fuel and air mixture. However, if the temperature during combustion is lowered, the emission amount can be reduced. Once such technique for reducing emission is exhuast gas recirculation (EGR). In this technique, the combustion temperature is restricted by recirculating the exhuast gas back to the cylinders to lower the oxygen concentration. These are two EGR systems; external EGR and internal EGR. In external EGR the line of the engine and the supercharger must be equipped with devices such as EGR solenoid valves and coolers, and control must be performed for them. But in internal EGR, these fuctions can be performed by controling the lift of the intake and exhuast valve.

Performance
This 180 mm long stroke 20 litre class diesel, with big breathing valves for better airflow, the high performance turbo for compactness, and the numerous other performance features deliver power in large amounts over a wide operating range. especially under high load conditions.
Good fuel economy together with lower emissions
The micro size multiple holes in the all new injectors produce and even finer fuel-oil mist and, combiined with the new perfectly matched combustion chambers and new cylinder head shapes, produce even more power. It is power delivered smoothly, due to optimum combustion conditions being maintained across a far wider operating range. It leads directly to the bonus of lower exhuast emissions and lower fuel consumption. The boost compensator dramatically reduces black smoke under hard acceleration.

Yanmar 6LY3-STP marine diesel engine 440hp
